Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has questioned the political credentials of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, arguing that neither has the governance record required to secure victory in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Ganduje also dismissed speculation about a possible joint presidential ticket involving Obi and Kwankwaso under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting such an alliance would struggle to gain support, particularly in Kano State.
According to the former Kano State governor, the proposed ticket would fail to make significant electoral impact.
“I don’t think Peter Obi and Kwankwaso’s ticket will succeed in Kano. It will not succeed. In fact, it is dead on arrival,” Ganduje said.
He questioned Obi’s performance during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, asking what lasting achievements the former governor left behind and whether he had since held any public office that demonstrated the leadership needed to govern Nigeria.
Ganduje also criticised Kwankwaso’s political record, noting that the former Kano State governor did not complete two consecutive terms in office.
He contrasted Kwankwaso’s tenure with those of former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and his own administration, both of which lasted eight uninterrupted years.
According to Ganduje, Kwankwaso has not established a political legacy strong enough to persuade voters that he is prepared for higher national responsibility.
He further argued that the former governor’s record would not convince either Kano residents or Nigerians generally that he could effectively serve in a top national leadership position.
The comments come amid growing political discussions and speculation over possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, although no official joint ticket involving Obi and Kwankwaso has been announced.
Neither Peter Obi nor Rabiu Kwankwaso had publicly responded to Ganduje’s remarks as of the time of filing this report.
