The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has confirmed that its cross-party negotiations are gaining momentum, positioning the party as the fastest-growing opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, declared in Abuja on Sunday that the party is rallying support across political divides to secure victory for its presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, whom he described as the embodiment of the new Nigeria citizens yearn for.
The announcement follows a public reaffirmation by the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose thousands of members gathered in Ado-Ekiti last Friday to endorse Governor Makinde and collaborate with the APM, while maintaining their PDP identity and structure.
Yusuf characterised the Ekiti PDP’s declaration as “a major boost” to the growing determination among Nigerians to elect Makinde as President, particularly given what he termed the “abysmal failures” of the Tinubu-led APC administration.
“We are working tirelessly and channelling all our energy into this election because we are running to win,” Yusuf stated. “Governor Makinde has become the rallying point for Nigerians, especially the youth.”
He cited Makinde’s “sterling performance” as Oyo State Governor, particularly in economy, security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and civil service welfare, as the basis for his acceptance as a credible alternative to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Since Engr. Seyi Makinde emerged as the APM presidential candidate, Nigerians from across the country have increasingly identified with our party, expressing readiness to mobilise support for the APM and its candidates,” Yusuf added.
The APM spokesman confirmed that alliance talks with like-minded political parties are yielding desired results, promising further solidarity announcements in the coming days.
Yusuf emphasised the party’s democratic principles and its blueprint for accountable governance, improved security, economic revival, and sustainable development.
“We are building the numbers, strengthening the structure, and will run one of the most robust, issue-based, and winning campaigns in Nigeria’s history,” he said, inviting all Nigerians who share the vision of national renewal to join the movement.
He assured citizens that, once entrusted with the mandate in 2027, the APM would, in accordance with its motto, prioritise the safety, prosperity, and welfare of all Nigerians above all considerations.
