Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has praised Lionel Messi after the captain produced another memorable moment in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messi came off the bench to score during Argentina’s 3-1 victory over Jordan, helping the defending champions finish top of Group J.
The result continued Argentina’s strong start to the tournament.
Messi makes history against Jordan
Argentina took control of the match after Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Lautaro Martinez doubled the lead from the penalty spot.
Jordan reduced the deficit through Musa Al-Taamari in the second half, but Messi sealed the win with a free-kick goal in the 80th minute.
The strike also saw Messi become the first player in World Cup history to score in seven consecutive appearances.
Scaloni impressed by Messi’s team-first approach
Speaking after the match, Scaloni said Messi’s decision to come on as a substitute showed his commitment to the team.
The Argentina manager explained that he and Messi agreed it was the best choice for the game, especially as the forward prioritised helping his teammates.
Scaloni added that Messi’s contribution goes beyond individual records and reflects his importance to the Argentina squad.
