The former wife of Nollywood actor Akin Olaiya, Nafisat Ahmed, has broken her silence on the collapse of their marriage, alleging that domestic violence, mistreatment, and betrayal were among the reasons she walked away from the union.
Her remarks followed a statement attributed to Olaiya in which he reportedly announced the end of the marriage and claimed that his wife left their matrimonial home without his knowledge despite efforts to reconcile with her.
Ahmed made the claims on Wednesday in a viral video released on Wednesday while reacting to reports surrounding the dissolution of her marriage to the actor.
Nafisat maintained that her departure was not without cause, insisting that she had endured difficulties in the marriage before deciding to leave.
According to her, the couple had been separated for several months, contrary to public assumptions that the breakup was recent.
“Last few months, I left my marriage because I’m in pain, I’m mistreated. I feel like I did not matter. And nobody is going to stay in a marital home that goes with violence,” she said.
The former spouse of the actor alleged that she suffered emotional distress during the marriage and rejected suggestions that she abandoned the relationship without any underlying issues.
She stated that while she was unwilling to disclose all the details of what transpired between them, there were circumstances that made it impossible for her to remain in the marriage.
Ahmed also alleged that she experienced betrayal from someone she once considered a close friend, claiming that the development further contributed to the breakdown of the relationship.
Without providing extensive details, she accused the actor of becoming involved with her best friend after their wedding, an allegation that has since generated widespread reactions on social media.
Ahmed said she had expected greater understanding and support from her former husband because of the significant age difference between them.
“I can never come out to disclose the main issues in my marriage on social media. But it does not make sense for anyone to say a woman just packed her things and left without any reason,” she said.
The controversy has reignited public interest in the couple’s marriage, particularly after videos from their wedding ceremony in July 2025 resurfaced online.
At the time, social media users had speculated about the bride’s seemingly stern facial expressions during parts of the ceremony while the actor appeared visibly excited.
The marriage, which attracted considerable attention within entertainment circles, reportedly lasted less than a year before the couple went their separate ways.
