A viral video of an Indian tourist repeatedly questioning a waiter in Vietnam about vegetarian food has sparked a massive online debate. The clip, filmed at Hanoi’s famous Train Street, shows the woman meticulously verifying if her meal contains meat, fish, or eggs. While some internet users slammed her for allegedly creating an unnecessary scene, the interaction took a surprising turn when the Vietnamese waiter himself stepped in to defend her. Shaming the trolls, the server praised her caution as completely understandable, turning a wave of social media backlash into a wholesome lesson in global hospitality.

The clip captures a woman sitting on a cafe table at the famous Hanoi Train Street. She says, “Only vegetables? No meat, no fish, no egg?” The waiter patiently explains that the food served doesn’t contain any non-vegetarian items.
He even goes on to reassure her, “I know you are nervous, but I swear it is only vegetables.”
What triggered the backlash?
Many on social media found the interaction incredibly heartwarming. However, a section of users slammed the woman, arguing that she shouldn’t have dined there, alleging that she created an unnecessary scene over her food.
What did the server say?
Reacting to the video shared on the couple’s joint Instagram page, the server who goes by “_thomas.wgz” on social media wrote, “Hi, I’m the server featured in that video. I feel truly honoured to welcome valued guests to our restaurant. Our job is to do our best to meet our customers’ needs, and I did not find her requests bothersome at all.”
He added, “I understood that she simply wanted to make sure the food she ordered was prepared as she expected. To me, it was a completely ordinary and understandable situation—nothing more than a normal interaction between a customer and a server.”
Harshada responded to the server’s remark and posted, “No wayyy! I never in my wildest dreams did I think this would reach you. Thank you so much for commenting and adding context to our conversation. Truly grateful!”
