United States President Donald Trump has announced plans aimed at providing humanitarian support to Iran, saying the country is facing a serious crisis as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue.
Trump said the measures would include assistance focused on essential supplies while discussions over Iran’s nuclear programme move forward.
The US president made the announcement in a statement shared on his Truth Social account.
Nuclear inspections linked to talks
According to Trump, Iran has agreed to allow extensive nuclear inspections as part of the ongoing discussions with the United States.
He described the arrangement as a way to ensure transparency over Tehran’s nuclear activities and said the inspections were important for future negotiations.
Trump stated that the agreement was among the reasons discussions between both countries were continuing.
Strait of Hormuz blockade avoided
Trump also said he had decided against moving forward with a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a major international route for oil transportation.
He attributed the decision to what he described as significant steps made by Iran during negotiations.
However, he added that military resources remained positioned should the situation change.
US-controlled aid arrangement announced
The president further said any approved funds or sanctions relief would be placed under American oversight.
He explained that the money would be used specifically to purchase food and medical supplies, including agricultural products from US producers.
Trump said the assistance was necessary because of what he described as difficult humanitarian conditions in Iran.
He added that talks between the two countries were making progress.
