Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has ordered a coordinated manhunt for gunmen responsible for the attack on Kawel community in Mushere Chiefdom of Bokkos Local Government Area, which left several people dead and others injured.
Governor Mutfwang also directed security agencies to intensify operations in the area, track down the perpetrators, and ensure they are brought to justice.
The government condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous and senseless act of violence against a peaceful community.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the government expressed condolences to the families of those killed and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, some of whom are receiving treatment in hospitals.
The statement noted that the attack underscores the urgent need for collective action against criminal elements seeking to destabilise peace and security in the state.
Ramnap further disclosed that the governor has instructed emergency and humanitarian agencies to provide immediate relief materials and medical support to affected families and victims receiving treatment in various health facilities.
Residents were urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information to aid ongoing investigations.
The government also warned against any form of reprisal attack, stressing that justice would be pursued strictly through lawful and constitutional means.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Plateau State Government assured citizens that it would not allow criminal elements to derail ongoing efforts toward lasting peace and development across the state.
It also expressed solidarity with the people of Kawel community and pledged continued efforts to strengthen security and stability across Plateau State.
