The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has suffered another personal loss following the death of her mother, Ladi Binta Musa Musawa, three years after the passing of her father, veteran politician, Musa Musawa.
Musawa’s mother was said to have died hours after returning to Abuja from Lagos State, where he attended an art and culture exhibition.
The Musawa family announced on Saturday that the minister’s mother died after a period of illness in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
In a statement released by the family, relatives expressed submission to the will of Allah and prayed for the repose of her soul.
“With total submission to the Will of Almighty Allah, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Hajiya Ladi Binta Musa Musawa, today, 13th June 2026,” the statement read.
The family prayed for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness upon the deceased and asked for strength to bear what it described as an irreparable loss.
The statement also announced that the Jana’iza prayer would be held after Zuhr prayers at the National Mosque Abuja.
Minister Musawa separately confirmed the death of her mother in a social media post, where she informed the Muslim community and well-wishers of the funeral arrangements.
According to the minister, the funeral prayer was scheduled to take place at the National Mosque, Abuja, after the Zuhr prayer on Saturday, while the burial would follow at Gudu Cemetery.
“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah of Salatul Janazah (Funeral Prayer) at the National Mosque, Abuja,” the minister wrote, praying for Almighty Allah to grant her mother Aljannatul Firdaus.
The death marks another painful chapter for the Musawa family, coming just over three years after the passing of the minister’s father, Musa Musawa, a respected political figure in Katsina State.
The elder statesman died on March 7, 2023, at the age of 85 after a prolonged illness and was widely remembered for his contributions to politics and public service.
Condolence messages have continued to pour in from political associates, government officials, cultural stakeholders and friends of the family, many describing the late Hajiya Ladi Musawa as a devoted mother, grandmother and woman of faith.
