The Chief Executive Officer of the Olalekan Ayinla Movement, Olalekan Ayinla, has called on Nigerians to embrace active citizenship and play greater roles in strengthening the nation’s democracy.
Ayinla stated that Nigerians, irrespective of their status, should uphold peace, love, and justice as essential pillars for the advancement of democratic governance in Nigeria.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, who made the call yesterday, in his message commemorating the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, congratulated Nigerians on the occasion, stressing that the need for citizens to remain committed to protecting the country’s democratic institutions and values.
According to him, democracy should not be viewed merely as the right to vote during elections but as a continuous process that requires the active participation of all citizens.
“Today, we honour not only the right to vote but also the strength that comes from unity, inclusion, and the collective responsibility we share in building a stronger nation,” Ayinla added.
He urged Nigerians to jealously guard, protect and defend democratic rule in order to preserve the freedoms and rights it guarantees.
The community leader noted that sustainable democracy thrives when citizens are united and every segment of society is given equal opportunities to contribute to national development.
“Democracy flourishes when every voice is acknowledged, every hand is uplifted, and when each person, regardless of their background or capabilities, is treated with dignity and respect,” he stated.
Ayinla also highlighted the activities of the Olalekan Ayinla Foundation, saying the organisation remains committed to improving the lives of vulnerable members of society through empowerment programmes and social interventions.
He said the foundation has continued to support widows, empower the less privileged, promote inclusivity and encourage leadership development among young Nigerians.
“At the Olalekan Ayinla Foundation, we are dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives by empowering the less privileged, supporting widows, promoting inclusivity, and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
The APC chieftain further stressed that democracy can only thrive in an environment where compassion, justice and equal opportunities are available to all citizens.
He maintained that a strong democracy begins with a caring society that prioritises the welfare of its people and ensures that no one is left behind.
“As we celebrate this important day, let us commit to upholding peace, love, justice and active citizenship for the advancement of our beloved Nigeria,” he added.
