President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments into key federal government agencies, naming former lawmaker Patrick Obahiagbon as Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).
The appointments, announced on Friday, also include the appointment of Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas as Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) and the reappointment of Chukwuma Umeoji as Executive Director, Corporate Services of the NDPHC.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the appointments take immediate effect.
Namdas takes over at BCDA
According to the Presidency, Namdas succeeds Dr. Dakorinama Alabo George, who resigned from office to contest for an elective position in his home state.
Namdas is a former member of the House of Representatives, where he represented the Ganye/Jada/Mayo Belwa/Toungo Federal Constituency of Adamawa State. During his time in the National Assembly, he served as spokesperson of the 8th House of Representatives.
Apart from his legislative career, Namdas has extensive experience in journalism and public relations. He previously served as Chief Press Secretary to former Adamawa State Governor Boni Haruna, a role in which he coordinated government communications and media relations.
His appointment is expected to provide fresh leadership for the Border Communities Development Agency, which is responsible for promoting infrastructure and socio-economic development in Nigeria’s border communities.
Obahiagbon joins NDPHC board
President Tinubu also appointed Patrick Obahiagbon as Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company.
Obahiagbon replaces Engineer Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who resigned from the position to pursue his political ambition in Edo State.
A lawyer and seasoned politician, Obahiagbon has served in both the Edo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives. He is widely known for his eloquent public speaking and contributions to legislative debates.
His new role will involve providing strategic direction for the company’s commercial operations as it continues efforts to improve electricity generation and power infrastructure across the country.
Umeoji reappointed
President Tinubu also reappointed Chukwuma Umeoji as Executive Director, Corporate Services of the NDPHC.
Umeoji, who represented Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra State in the 9th House of Representatives, had earlier stepped down from the same office to pursue his political ambition in his state.
The Presidency expressed confidence that the appointments would strengthen the leadership of the affected agencies and improve service delivery.
According to the statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, all the appointments take immediate effect, with the new and returning officials expected to assume their responsibilities without delay.
