Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned 10 newly completed roads in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and drive economic development in the state.
The roads, which span 11.5 kilometres, are among more than 45 projects executed by the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia under its urban renewal programme. The projects are aimed at improving mobility, enhancing security, stimulating economic activities and improving the quality of life for residents.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Senator Tinubu commended Governor Alia for his commitment to infrastructure development and the transformation of the state.
She said the projects align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu by delivering tangible benefits to citizens and strengthening critical infrastructure.
The First Lady also expressed appreciation for the decision to name one of the roads after her, describing the gesture as a special honour given her family’s long-standing connection to Benue State through her late uncle, popularly known as Dele Bookshop.
In his remarks, Governor Alia welcomed the First Lady and other dignitaries to the state, describing her as a friend of Benue whose interventions through the Renewed Hope Initiative have positively impacted women, youths, children and other vulnerable groups.
He noted that the newly completed roads have improved connectivity, opened up previously inaccessible areas, reduced travel time and created opportunities for economic growth across Makurdi.
The governor also thanked President Tinubu for supporting subnational governments and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent resource management and sustained infrastructure development.
