A driver has sustained severe injuries and in need of a life-saving medical intervention following an attack by a shark in Australia.
The 35-year-old victim was said to have been spearfishing with his family after which the 4.8-metre (15-foot) sea creature attacked him, leading to a distress call to emergency officers who rushed him to a hospital.
The police disclosed that the the Incident which happened in Michaelmas Island, southeast of Perth, at about 11:25am on Saturday, is sequel to a similar incident two weeks ago when a 38-year-old, Steven Mattaboni, was killed in northern Queensland in the third fatal shark attack in the country this year.
Australian have opined that the scientists increasingly crowded waters and rising ocean temperatures are shifting sharks’ migratory patterns, which may be contributing to a rise in attacks.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) said it was assisting police and local authorities with the incident, and also urged residents to report any shark sightings to necessary agencies.
It comes less than a month after a father-of-two died after a separate shark attack in Western Australia.
