Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy is set to face trial in Spain over an alleged incident involving one of his dogs attacking a teenager and other animals.
The case relates to an incident reportedly linked to dogs owned by the French left-back escaping from his property in Madrid.
A private prosecution is seeking a six-month prison sentence for alleged injury caused by gross negligence, alongside financial penalties, according to court documents.
Prosecutors seek financial penalties
Spain’s public prosecutor’s office is reportedly requesting fines in relation to a minor injury offence.
The matter is connected to an incident said to have happened in January 2023 in Alcobendas, an affluent area near Madrid.
Reports stated that several dogs belonging to Mendy escaped after a property gate was left open when a vehicle entered.
Teenager injured while intervening
According to reports, one of the dogs attacked another person’s pet, which later suffered injuries that led to it being put down.
A 17-year-old boy who attempted to intervene was also reportedly bitten, along with a dog belonging to a family member that he was walking.
Mendy’s Real Madrid career affected by injuries
Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in 2019 and has been part of the club’s defensive setup.
However, his time at the Spanish giants has been affected by several injury problems.
The defender, now 31, continues to remain involved in football matters while the legal process develops.
