The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to strengthen security across the South-West, calling for enhanced collaboration among state governments, security agencies, and residents to tackle any emerging criminal threats in the region.
According to the police, the alliance would further strengthen operational readiness, improve intelligence gathering, and develop a more coordinated regional response to crime.
The call was made on Monday by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Supervising DIG for the South-West, Adegoke Fayoade, during a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
Fayoade said the ongoing engagement with stakeholders across the South-West forms part of the policy direction of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
According to him, the police hierarchy is reviewing security operations across the region with a view to enhancing efficiency and deploying strategies capable of addressing evolving security challenges.
“The South-West remains a critical economic and strategic zone in the country. Securing the region requires collaboration, intelligence-driven policing, technological innovation, and the active support of governments and citizens,” Fayoade added.
He noted that findings from the engagements with stakeholders would be presented to the Inspector-General of Police to improve operational effectiveness and reinforce security architecture across the region.
The DIG, who previously served as Commissioner of Police and Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Lagos and Ogun, commended the Lagos State Government for what he described as its consistent support for security agencies through logistics, funding and strategic partnerships.
He described Lagos as a model for police-community partnership, stressing that the state’s investment in security infrastructure had contributed significantly to crime prevention and public safety.
Responding, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the police and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security in Lagos and the wider South-West region.
The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde, said security remains a top priority of his administration, adding that Lagos would continue to invest in initiatives that enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies.
“We do not joke with security. We are committed to supporting the police and all security agencies to ensure that Lagos remains safe for residents, investors, and visitors,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also pledged deeper collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, expressing confidence that stronger partnerships among governments, security agencies, and communities would further improve safety across the region.
The governor praised officers and men of the Lagos State Police Command for their professionalism and dedication, assuring them of continued government support to strengthen operational effectiveness.
