The Nigeria Police Force has deployed officers to 2,545 polling units in Ekiti State to boost security and orderliness ahead and during the governorship election.
The force held that the provision became necessary to ensure protection of the electorates, safety of electoral officers as well as sensitive materials throughout the exercise.
The Commissioner of Police, Shogunle Abayomi, mentioned that the deployment also covers critical infrastructure, major entry and exit routes, border communities, and other strategic locations identified as vital to ensuring a peaceful electoral process during the Saturday, June 20, poll.
Abayomi, on Friday, said that the personnel is keen to carry out their duties professionally, impartially, and in strict compliance with the law, adding that electoral offences who are carry out actions capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process would be met with appropriate sanctions under the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.
The police figure urged eligible voters to turn out peacefully and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting public order.
