Presidency: 8 kidnap suspects arrested during rescue

Politics

THE Presidency says eight suspected kidnappers were arrested during the rescue operation that secured the release of the abducted Oyo schoolchildren and teachers.

Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed this in an update posted on his official X handle.

According to Onanuga, the eight suspects are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), while some other members of the gang were neutralised during the operation.

He also dismissed claims that the rescue involved any form of negotiation or exchange with the kidnappers.

“There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, that the kidnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities,” he stated.

Onanuga added that the security agencies would soon provide a comprehensive account of the rescue operation.

The update follows the successful rescue of all the abducted pupils and teachers taken from Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
