President Bola Tinubu has said his administration’s ongoing road infrastructure projects are revitalising the economy by improving mobility, boosting productivity and creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
The President made the remarks on Monday during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated and expanded road from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, along with other adjoining roads in the Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The project forms part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the President at the commissioning ceremony.
Tinubu described the road project as another fulfilment of his administration’s commitment to easing urban congestion and improving the quality of life for residents under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He recalled that the government had previously commissioned a water supply project for Karu and neighbouring communities, noting that the latest road project further demonstrates its commitment to delivering critical infrastructure.
“We were in this vicinity to commission water supply to Karu and neighbouring communities. Today, it is roads, and indeed this project stands as a clear testament to our promise to reduce urban congestion and upgrade the living standard of our people. It is the Renewed Hope Agenda in action,” he said.
According to the President, the Karu corridor, which serves as a major gateway between the FCT and neighbouring states, had for years been plagued by severe traffic congestion that affected the productivity and daily lives of commuters.
He said the expansion and rehabilitation of the roads would significantly reduce travel time, eliminate gridlock and stimulate economic activities in the area.
“When we took office three years ago, we recognised that true development must reach where the people actually live and commute. By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy.
“These projects cut down daily travel time, eliminate gridlock and ensure that businesses in this densely populated area can thrive under the right conditions,” Tinubu said.
The President also noted that the road network was designed with the safety of road users in mind, adding that the Federal Capital Territory Administration installed modern solar-powered streetlights along the entire corridor to enhance visibility and improve security for motorists, particularly at night.
