Bandits have killed a teacher and abducted dozens of students from a secondary school during an attack on a border community in Adamawa.
The bandits reportedly arrived at the secondary school on motorcycles and invaded the classrooms, disrupted class activities and abducted several students in the process.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday morning at Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, a border community with Adamawa State.
The Special Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, on Media and Strategy, Solomon Kwamagar, confirmed the incident on Monday.
“Today is Lassa market day. I was informed that they came through the market on motorcycles and went to Government Day Secondary School, Lassa.
“They shot and killed one teacher and took away all the students who were in their classrooms,” he said.
Kwamagar added that he was still making contacts to ascertain the total number of students and teachers who were kidnapped from the school.
He noted that Lassa in Borno State is predominantly inhabited by his people, the Margi, who are found in both Adamawa and Borno states, and that he himself is from Lassa but resides in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Meanwhile, when contacted for confirmation, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, could not be reached as his phone was switched off.
