The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a three-week suspension of the Kajola–Apapa (BAT) passenger train service to allow for scheduled maintenance of its locomotives and coaches.
According to the corporation, the suspension will take effect from Monday, July 6, with services expected to resume on Monday, July 27.
In a statement issued on Monday by the NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, the corporation said the last passenger train on the route before the suspension would operate on Friday, July 3.
It clarified that freight services to and from the Apapa Port Complex, as well as operations on the Narrow Gauge and Standard Gauge corridors, would not be affected by the temporary suspension.
“Please note that freight services to and from the Apapa Port Complex and other train terminals on both the Narrow Gauge and Standard Gauge corridors will not be affected by this temporary suspension,” Opeifa said.
To minimise the impact on commuters, the corporation advised passengers to use its Lagos Mass Transit Train (LMTT) services, which operate on weekdays between Ijoko, Kajola and Iddo.
According to the NRC, morning services depart Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. for Iddo, while return services leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola.
The corporation apologised for the inconvenience, saying the maintenance exercise is necessary to ensure the continued safety, reliability and efficiency of its passenger train operations.
