The troops of the Operation Enduring Peace have have foiled an attack by gunmen aimed at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), located in Plateau state.
Soldiers on guard duty reportedly detected suspicious movements around the institute and immediately responded to the threat.
Upon responding to the threat by the gunmen with heavy gunfire, the attackers immediately fled and abandoned their mission of gaining access to the institute.
The attempted attack occurred at about 1:30 a.m. yesterday at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A military source familiar with the incident said on Monday that soldiers defending the facility acted swiftly after noticing the presence of the gunmen emerging from the forest surrounding the facility.
“The soldiers responded professionally and decisively, denying the gunmen any opportunity to penetrate the facility,” the military source said.
Meanwhile, following the failed attack, soldiers launched a search operation in the surrounding area where the gunmen were last seen.
However, no contact was established as the gunmen had already escaped before the military personnel reached the location.
According to the military source, additional security measures have since been put in place to safeguard the institute and prevent any repeat of the incident.
“Security around the facility has been strengthened, while surveillance and area domination patrols have been intensified to ensure the safety of personnel and infrastructure,” the source said.
