The Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has distributed relief materials to victims affected by farmers-herders clashes and communal crises across eight local government areas of Nasarawa State.
The intervention is aimed at easing the hardship faced by affected communities and supporting the efforts of the Nasarawa State Government in providing humanitarian assistance to displaced and vulnerable residents.
Items delivered included 1,300 bags of parboiled rice, 1,300 bags of beans, 1,300 cartons of spaghetti, 130 cartons of tomato paste, 130 cartons of vegetable oil, 130 cartons of seasoning cubes, and 65 bags of iodized salt.
According to a statement issued on Monday, the relief materials were handed over on June 19, 2026, at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp in Shabu, Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, represented by the Acting Director of the North Central Zonal Office, Suleiman Muhammad, expressed the agency’s sympathy to the government and people of Nasarawa State over the crises.
He said the relief items were intended to provide immediate support to victims and commended the state government’s backing of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA).
Muhammad also urged the state government to strengthen proactive disaster management measures to improve emergency preparedness and response to future incidents.
Representing Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe, appreciated the Federal Government for the intervention, noting that the assistance would bring relief to affected communities.
He described Nasarawa as a state vulnerable to both natural and human-induced disasters and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to disaster risk management.
Akabe also commended NEMA for its continued support to the state in responding to emergencies and humanitarian challenges.
In his remarks, the Director-General of NASEMA, Benjamin Akwash, thanked NEMA for the timely intervention and assured that the relief materials would be distributed transparently to the intended beneficiaries.
He also acknowledged the support of the state government in strengthening disaster management efforts.
