Nasarawa APC deputy chairman resigns from party

The Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Osama, has resigned from his position and withdrawn his membership from the party, citing alleged irregularities and injustice in the conduct of the party’s recent primaries.

Osama, who also holds the traditional title of Sarkin Hausawan Sisinbaki, announced his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Gitta Electoral Ward.

His resignation, announced on Friday, comes amid growing discontent within the party following the APC primary elections and the recent defection of Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, popularly known as JJ Umaru, from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

In the letter, Osama alleged that the primary election process in his ward and across the local government area was marred by irregularities, intimidation, and actions that violated both the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

According to him, the outcome of the primaries did not reflect the wishes of party members, a development he said undermined the principles of internal democracy.

“I was compelled to take this step due to the persistent irregularities and injustice that characterized the process,” he stated.

The former APC deputy chairman further claimed that he was suspended for supporting an aspirant of his choice during the primaries, describing the action as unfair and contrary to the democratic ideals that initially attracted him to the party.

“I joined the APC believing in internal democracy, but events surrounding the recent primaries have demonstrated a departure from those ideals,” he said.

Expressing his disappointment, Osama said he could no longer remain in a political platform where the voices of party members were allegedly ignored.

“I cannot remain a member of a party where the voices of my people are not heard,” he wrote.

Despite his grievances, Osama expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chairman of the party in Wamba Local Government Area and wished the party success in its future engagements.
