Florida father Ryan Whiten killed daughters and ex-partner Melanie Hyer before suicide; police reveal shocking details
Authorities in Florida have confirmed that a father killed his two young daughters and their mother before taking his own life inside a gated Doral community, in what investigators described as a disturbing murder-suicide case.
According to the New York Post, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detectives identified 42-year-old Ryan Charles Whiten as the man responsible for the deaths of his estranged ex-partner, Melanie Hyer, and their daughters, Savannah, 11, and Sienna, 8.
Deputies reportedly discovered the bodies Tuesday night after responding to a welfare check at Hyer’s home in Doral, Florida. “The investigation revealed that Mr. Whiten committed these heinous acts and then took his own life,” officials said in a statement.
Investigators said all four victims suffered fatal stab wounds. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive, and the case remains under investigation.
Divorce finalized months before tragedy
Court records obtained by NBC6 show that Hyer had finalized her divorce earlier this year, only months before the killings.
Hyer and Whiten had reportedly separated years ago and were co-parenting their daughters at the time of their deaths. Both had since remarried following their split.

Whiten’s former wife, who spoke anonymously to 7 News Miami, described the relationship between Whiten and Hyer as “toxic” due to a long-running dispute involving the children.
Despite the tensions, she said the tragedy came as a shock.
“He was always so sweet with his girls and loved them deeply. I don’t know what happened,” she told the outlet. According to the report, Whiten had previously expressed fears that Hyer could one day take the girls away from him.
Community remembers Melanie Hyer and daughters
Hyer, 46, was a prominent South Florida probate realtor who specialized in luxury waterfront and commercial properties. Her LinkedIn profile noted that she frequently appeared as a real estate expert on television news programs.

Doral Mayor Christi Fraga paid tribute to Hyer in an Instagram post, remembering her as “a light of sunshine” who was deeply involved in her children’s school community.
“When I got the news, it definitely hit close to home,” Fraga wrote.
Savannah and Sienna attended Downtown Doral Elementary and were also members of the Doral Field Hockey team. A Catholic memorial Mass honoring Hyer and her daughters is expected to be held Friday evening.
