Jose Mourinho has revealed that his strong connection with Real Madrid played a major role in his decision to return as the club’s manager.
The Portuguese coach has been confirmed as the new head coach of Los Blancos ahead of the 2026/2027 season.
The appointment marks Mourinho’s second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.
Second chapter at the Bernabeu
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, a period where he guided the club to major domestic successes.
During his first tenure, the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager won the LaLiga title, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.
He now returns to lead a team looking to rebuild after two consecutive seasons without a major trophy.
Love for club influenced decision
Despite the pressure surrounding the job, Mourinho said his affection for Real Madrid was the key reason behind his decision to come back.
“I love Real Madrid, and this is the reason why I’m coming back. I don’t deny it,” Mourinho told reporters.
The manager will now begin preparations for the new campaign as he aims to bring success back to the Bernabeu.
