1/10Modi Makes History in Slovakia | Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bratislava on Sunday for a two-day state visit — the first by an Indian prime minister to Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993. He was received by Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar and welcomed with a traditional bread-and-salt ceremony. On X, Modi wrote: “Reached Bratislava. This visit provides an opportunity to deepen India-Slovakia relations and explore new avenues of cooperation.”
2/1014 Deals, One Partnership | India and Slovakia elevated their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership on Monday, announcing 14 key outcomes from talks between Modi and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The two sides signed 11 agreements and memoranda of understanding covering labour migration, defence, digital technologies, higher education, quantum communication and audio-visual cooperation. They also agreed to establish a Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism and launch a Consular Dialogue mechanism.

3/10EU FTA: The Big Bet | Modi and Fico agreed to work towards the earliest implementation of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, which both sides expect to significantly expand bilateral economic engagement. Slovak industry leaders welcomed the conclusion of the India-EU FTA and said its implementation would open new business opportunities for them. They expressed confidence in India’s economic trajectory and interest in investments, technology partnerships and joint ventures with Indian companies.

4/10Business Gets Personal | Modi and Fico jointly met Slovak business and industry leaders from railways, defence, automotives, energy, nuclear energy, IT and healthcare. Modi highlighted India’s reform agenda, including the SHANTI Act — the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Act, 2025 — which opened India’s nuclear sector to private participation and foreign direct investment. He invited Slovak companies to explore opportunities in infrastructure, defence, renewable energy, digital innovation, semiconductors, AI and healthcare. “Had insightful discussions on strengthening economic ties, boosting investment flows and expanding collaboration in innovation, technology, manufacturing and more,” he posted on X.

5/10Pellegrini Picks Up the Thread | Modi met Slovak President Peter Pellegrini at the Presidential Palace on Monday, with their talks covering manufacturing, transport, innovation, investment, energy, biofuels and digital technology. The two leaders recalled Pellegrini’s visit to India for the AI Impact Summit in February 2026. “I am glad that @narendramodi and I can build on the open and friendly dialogue we began during my visit to New Delhi this February,” Pellegrini posted on X. Modi responded: “Happy to have continued the important conversations we had when we last met.”

6/10More Than Just Talks | The two leaders expressed satisfaction at ongoing cooperation across trade, investment, technology and people-to-people ties, and discussed regional and global developments of mutual interest, the MEA said. “Both leaders discussed expanding cooperation across diverse areas and advancing the warm and friendly relations between the two countries,” MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X. Modi also thanked Pellegrini for his “unwavering support to the India-Slovakia partnership.”

7/10Yoga, Varanasi and Dinner | Modi and Pellegrini viewed a painting exhibition at the Presidential Palace by Slovak artists on the theme “Varanasi City” and watched a Yoga demonstration by Slovak school children. Pellegrini subsequently hosted a state banquet in Modi’s honour. Modi posted on X: “It is gladdening to see Indian art and culture become popular globally.” The cultural events capped a day that the MEA described as a milestone in India-Slovakia relations.

8/10Slovakia’s Top Honour | President Pellegrini conferred Slovakia’s highest state decoration — the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class) — on Modi at a separate ceremony in Bratislava. The award is presented exclusively to foreign citizens for exceptional contributions to friendly relations with Slovakia. “Honoured to receive The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class) in Bratislava this evening. My gratitude to the people and Government of Slovakia for this honour, which belongs to the 140 crore people of India. I dedicate this award to the enduring friendship between India and Slovakia,” Modi posted on X.

9/10Modi’s 33rd Global Award | The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class) is Modi’s 33rd international honour from a foreign government. Modi called it a testament to the warmth, trust and affection uniting the people of India and Slovakia, and expressed hope that it would inspire future generations in both countries. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the conferment “reflected his leadership in strengthening the India-Slovakia partnership and advancing India’s engagement with Europe.” Home Minister Amit Shah described it as “another grand moment of pride for India.”
