The Lagos State Police Command has countered the rumour of bandits intending to abduct students in a school at a community in the area.
The police moved quickly to calm fears of a threatening notice alleging that the terrorists pasted a notice at a school notifying of their planed strike.
The Command condemned the rumour in a released statement stressing that no verified intelligence points to any imminent attack in the state, urging the public to disregard the submissions.
The statement, on Monday, in Lagos, followed public anxiety, emphasizing that Lagos remains secure and vowed that anyone found engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic, or insecurity would be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, directed immediate assessment of the situation and ordered watertight security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations, deploying personnel in collaboration with other agencies.
“The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities, and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State,” the statement read.
“We will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers, or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents,
Fatai insisted that every lawful measure is being taken to prevent criminal infiltration, urging to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information.
“Security is a collective responsibility, and effective policing thrives on active partnership between the Police and members of the public,” the Command declared, encouraging reports of suspicious persons, objects, or movements through emergency lines.
The Police reaffirmed that all hands are on deck to ensure the continued safety, security, and well-being of every resident of Lagos State, stressing that the alleged threat would not derail their mission to protect schools, communities, and critical infrastructure.
