The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the official list of candidates for the June 20, 2026 bye-elections, setting the stage for contests across several senatorial districts and constituencies.
The list, which features candidates from various political parties, follows the conclusion of party primaries and the submission of nominations in line with the electoral timetable.
The bye-elections will be held to fill vacant seats in the National Assembly and state constituencies across affected areas.
The release, made on Monday, covers Ondo South, Nasarawa North, Rivers South East, and Enugu North Senatorial Districts, as well as Zuru Constituency in Kebbi State and Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano. INEC said the publication was necessary to provide clarity ahead of the polls.
In Ondo South, Adesanya Olaoluwa (APP), Faduyile Francis Adedayo (APC), Akinwumi Adeolu Harrison (APM), and Nejo Funso Clement (BP) will contest the seat.
In Nasarawa North, Halilu Danladi Envwulu-Aza (APC), Maku Labaran (LP), John Paul Araneshri (NNPP), and Emmanuel David Ombugadu (PDP) are in the race.
Rivers South East features Douglas Fabeeke Beeka (AA), Osarosaka Ebenezer Erewari (APC), Sam Kinanee Barikpoa (LP), and Nwogu Olaka Johnson (PDP).
In Enugu North, Asogwa Ikeje Israel (APC), Aneke Kingsley Chukwuebuka (BP), and Ezeme Nestor Chika (PDP) will contest.
For Kebbi’s Zuru Constituency, Garba Aiki Rabiu (APC) and Aliyu Galadima Muhammad (LP) will vie for the State House of Assembly seat.
In Kano’s Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, Rabiu Shuaibu (APC), Lawan Garba Haruna (APM), and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad (LP) are listed as candidates.
INEC stressed that the publication of the list is part of its statutory duty to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to credible elections, warning that any attempt to disrupt the process would be met with firm resistance.
With the list now public, political parties are expected to intensify campaigns as the June 20 polls draw closer.
