Germany World Cup squad member, Nico Schlotterbeck, has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the competition over an occurrence an ankle injury.
Schlotterbeck suffered the injury, a medial collateral ligament, in Germany’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast after which he was replaced by Antonio Rudiger, and will now be sidelined for several months, which means he won’t recover on time for the remaining matches of the competition for the European side and would miss the opening matches for his club side, Borussia Dortmund, in the 2026/27 season.
The 26-year-old defender has cemented himself as a key-member of the German team, playing in all two games for the central-western European country in the global soccer competition, played in all their two games, scoring the second goal in a 7-1 win over debutants, Curacao, and 2-1 against Ivory Coast, which helped the side seal their place in the Round of 16.
Schlotterbeck will remain with his compatriots for the main time, as said by the team’s head coach, Julian Nagelsmann, who added, ”Schlotti will be greatly missed on the pitch as an outstanding defender, especially his excellent build-up play.
”It could have been his World Cup. Yesterday, we all tried to lift his spirits, fortunately, he is a very positive character who is already looking ahead again.
”It is a very positive sign that he will initially remain here within the team because he also has an influence off the pitch,” Naglesmann said on Monday.
The coach has Jonathan Tah, Rudiger, Waldemar Anton and Malick Taw to call on in the remaining games, as far as they can go, beginning from their last group state match against Ecuador on Thursday.
