Funeral prayers have been held in Katsina for retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, days after he died while in the custody of terrorists following his abduction.
The ceremony attracted family members, military officers, government officials, and residents who gathered to pay their final respects to the former Director of Defence Information.

Wife released alongside late general’s remains
According to reports, Abubakar’s wife, who was abducted alongside him, was released together with his body after their captors handed them over.
The funeral prayers provided an opportunity for loved ones and colleagues to honour the late senior military officer.

The Defence Headquarters had earlier confirmed Abubakar’s death and expressed condolences to his family, colleagues, and Nigerians.
In a statement signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, the military described Abubakar as a dedicated officer who served the country in several important roles.
He was recognised for his work as a military spokesperson and as Director of Defence Information, as well as his contributions to national security operations.

The military said it avoided public comments about the abduction while efforts were ongoing to secure his release.
According to the Defence Headquarters, available operational resources were deployed during the rescue efforts.
The military added that security operations against terrorists and kidnappers have been intensified following recent abduction cases across the country.
