Four National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members alongside a soldier one other person have died following a tragic accident in Adamawa State.
The incident involving the sextet casualties happened after a collision between a military vehicle and a commercial bus, triggering a fire outbreak leaving several occupants trapped and unable to escape.
It was gathered that the mishap which happened yesterday at about 1:50pm along the Girei–Song Highway near the Narehi area of Girei–Song Local Government Area involved the military vehicle travelling from Gombi to Yola, while the commercial Hummer bus, conveying the corp members, was heading from Yola to Mubi when the two vehicles collided.
Two among the corps members were identified as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while authorities continue efforts to confirm the identities of the remaining victims.
According to the Adamawa state police spokesperson, Suleiman Ngurore, the impact of the collision caused the commercial bus to overturn before it burst into flames.
Ngurore said that all passengers on board the vehicle were reportedly burnt beyond recognition as emergency responders raced to the scene.
Furthermore, the spokesman described the incident as devastating, saying investigators were still working to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
Concluding the police command statement, Ngurore assured that a full investigation had commenced while adding that the findings would help determine responsibility and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
