The FCT Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers who had appeared in a viral video displaying AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and walkie-talkies while dressed in military camouflage.
FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi said he ordered an immediate forensic investigation and manhunt after the footage surfaced online.
Digital forensic analysis and intelligence gathering subsequently led operatives to the suspects’ hideout, where a coordinated early-morning raid was carried out at around 3:22 a.m. on May 25 in Runji Village, Zuba.
The operation was conducted by the FCT Police VCRU Sector 5 and officers from the Zuba Division under Divisional Police Officer CSP Ogu Caleb Ikechukwu.
The three suspects arrested Umar Babangida, 25, Adamu Yeti, 22, and Yahaya Idris, 24 are all residents of Rijana, Kaduna State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they allegedly obtained the rifles from their gang leader, identified only as “Esco,” who is also from Rijana and remains at large.
Further searches of the suspects’ mobile phones uncovered additional videos and photographs showing them posing with military camouflage, high-caliber weapons, and communication gadgets.
The suspects remain in custody pending further interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to track down Esco and other fleeing gang members and recover all firearms linked to the syndicate.
