THE Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has cautioned district heads and community leaders in Bida Emirate against harbouring criminals.
Speaking at a meeting with district and community heads on Thursday in Bida, Etsu Nupe, who is also the Chairman, Niger Council of Traditional Rulers, expressed concern over the surge in criminal activities.
The monarch decried the growing spate of killings of innocent residents and the kidnapping of children, among other crimes.
He charged the traditional leaders to live up to their responsibilities as custodians of their communities.
The traditional ruler urged them to take proactive measures to protect lives and property.
Abubakar directed all district and village heads to improve surveillance within their domains and be vigilant enough to identify criminals.
“Do not hesitate to bring such individuals to face the law, regardless of the influence or status of their parents.
“As traditional institutions, you must play a leading role in supporting security agencies and ensuring that peace and order are maintained within your communities,” he charged. (NAN)
