President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the re-election victory of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as a clear demonstration of the people’s confidence in his administration’s policies and development programmes.
The President described the governorship election outcome as a strong endorsement of continuity, stability, and people-centred governance in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President congratulated Governor Oyebanji on his resounding victory during the poll conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Tinubu commended the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful and orderly conduct during the election, noting that their decision to return the governor for a second term reflected their trust in his leadership and the achievements recorded under his administration.
The President also praised security agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral process and maintaining law and order throughout the exercise.
With the victory, Oyebanji has become the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to secure back-to-back re-election, a feat widely regarded as a significant political milestone in the state’s democratic journey.
According to Tinubu, the governor’s first term was marked by notable achievements in critical sectors, including infrastructure development, agriculture, youth empowerment, education, healthcare delivery, and rural development under the BAO agenda.
“The renewed mandate is a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability and people-centred governance,” the President stated.
He urged the governor to remain magnanimous in victory and extend a hand of fellowship to all stakeholders, irrespective of political affiliation, as he begins a new term in office.
Tinubu stressed the need for inclusive governance, calling on Oyebanji to carry all segments of the state along while consolidating on the gains recorded during his first tenure.
The President also commended other candidates who participated in the election, saying their involvement strengthened democratic values and provided voters with the opportunity to make informed choices.
He urged political actors in the state to set aside partisan differences and support the governor in advancing the development agenda of Ekiti State.
“It is now time to rally round Governor Oyebanji in the task of taking Ekiti to the next level of governance,” he said.
Tinubu further challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on the successes recorded in the Ekiti election by ensuring future elections remain peaceful, free, fair, and credible.
The President specifically referenced the forthcoming Osun State governorship election and the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to working closely with the Ekiti State Government in delivering democratic dividends and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda across the country.
Tinubu also prayed for wisdom, strength, and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he embarks on another four-year term of service to the people of Ekiti State.
