THE organisers of the Dynamic Athletics Meet have confirmed that athletes from five West African countries will compete in the event.
The competition is expected to feature athletes from Benin, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria.
Convener of the meet, Olabanji Ayegbusi, in a statement on Monday said the championship would hold in mid-August at Yabatech Sports Complex, Lagos.
Ayegbusi said the World Athletics-listed event had generated strong interest across the region.
“The contest has received entries from athletes in participating countries, showing their readiness through various communication channels,” he said.
He added that the meet would provide competitors an opportunity to end the 2026 season strongly.
“The athletes are ready for outstanding performances, personal bests and improved world rankings,” Ayegbusi stated.
He said the competition had produced world-leading marks, records and personal bests over the years.
Ayegbusi noted that the 2026 edition would continue supporting elite and emerging athletes.
“The official competition date and registration details will be announced soon,” he said.
He urged stakeholders, including the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and National Sports Commission, to support the event.
“The backing of relevant bodies will contribute to athletics growth in Nigeria and West Africa,” he added.
Ayegbusi described the meet as a collective platform for athletes, coaches, officials, media practitioners and supporters.
“We all have a role to play in making it bigger and better,” he said. (NAN)
