The Lagos State Government has commenced the removal of illegal squatters, shanties and unauthorised trading structures along the Orile–Okokomaiko section of the Badagry Expressway as part of a coordinated enforcement operation aimed at reclaiming public infrastructure and restoring order on one of the state’s busiest transport corridors.
The exercise, which is being carried out by a joint enforcement team comprising relevant state agencies, under the directive by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to clear illegal structures and activities encroaching on the road median.
According to the government, the operation is designed to remove makeshift shelters and unauthorised trading activities that have occupied the median of the expressway, obstructing the intended use of the public infrastructure and posing environmental and safety concerns.
In a brief statement accompanied by video footage reposted on Monday, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, confirmed that officials had commenced the enforcement exercise along the Orile–Okokomaiko axis of the Badagry Expressway.
“A joint enforcement operation is currently underway along the Orile–Okokomaiko axis of the Badagry Expressway, as the Lagos State Government moves to remove shanties, makeshift structures and unauthorised trading activities on the road median,” he said.
Gbadegesin added that the operation was being executed in compliance with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s directive to reclaim public infrastructure and restore order along the strategic transport corridor.
