Dasuki urges Tinubu to renew bilateral relationship with Niger Republic to tackle insecurity
The newly appointed Deputy Minority Leader, House of Representatives, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, has called on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to renew the bilateral relationship with Niger Republic to tackle insecurity
Dasuki who is representing Tambuwal / Kebbe federal constituency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said such action will greatly help in securing Nigerian borders with Niger Republic.
“I am seriously advising the governors to prevail on the President to ensure that we improve our relationship with our neighbours, Niger Republic.
“The current soar state of relations between Nigeria and Niger Republic is unbecoming and it is not a good omen for security,” the law maker stated
Dasuki who spoke in Sokoto shortly after he received an appreciations Award from people of Tambuwal and Kebbe federal constituency, pledged to work tirelessly to make his constituency, Sokoto state and Nigeria in general more safer and secure.
The lawmaker also renewed his call on governors in Northern Nigeria to intensify cooperation in addressing the region’s security challenges, arguing that insecurity has become a national problem requiring collective action and stronger collaboration among state governments.
He noted that criminal elements operate across state boundaries, making it imperative for northern governors to develop coordinated strategies to tackle banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and other threats confronting the region.
Dasuki further urged federal and state governments to engage Niger Republic and other neighbouring countries in joint operations against insurgency, stressing that cross-border collaboration was key to containing the spread of violent extremism.
He called for more measures by the government to remedy the security situation, including the recruitment of forest guards and funding for security agencies.
The lawmaker also urged governors across the country to make proper funding provisions for the proposed State Police.

He appreciated the award from the elders and acknowledged the quality leadership being provided by Hon. Abdullahi Maigwandu and his colleagues, which is giving hope that ADC will win the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Hon. Dasuki vowed to provide a credible opposition to ensure the success of ADC candidates at all levels.
On workers’ welfare, the Deputy Minority Leader weighed in on the minimum wage debate and insisted that state governments do not need to wait for consultations with President Bola Tinubu before increasing pay, saying many states now have the financial capacity to do so.
Reacting to remarks that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum would consult the President on raising the minimum wage to N100,000, he argued that increased revenue allocations, particularly after the devaluation of the naira, have put states in a position to afford N100,000 and above without federal approval.
In his response, the Soloto State ADC chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu, commended Dasuki for providing quality representation as well as his sustained efforts to empower his constituents.
He however, extolled Dasuki’s leadership qualities and accused some lawmakers from the state of being “bench warmers” at the National Assembly.
Maigwandu promised that ADC would engage the ruling APC with constructive criticism and work to dethrone the party at both state and federal levels in the next election.
Also in his remarks, the ADC zonal chairman for Sokoto South Senatorial District, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Sanyinna, acknowledged the sustained initiatives of the lawmaker in empowering his constituents.
