NIGERIA’S Senior Women Cricket team lost by seven wickets to opponents Brazil at the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament encounter in Kigali, Rwanda, on Monday.
After Brazil won the toss and elected to field, Nigeria posted 111 for six in their allotted 20 overs.
Adeshola Adekunle top-scored for the Female YellowGreens with 38 runs off 44 balls, while Salome Sunday contributed 25 runs from 22 deliveries.
Esther Sandy remained unbeaten on 15.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s bowling attack was led by Maria Ribeiro, who claimed three wickets for 31 runs, while Nicole Monteiro added one wicket to restrict their African opposition.
In reply, Brazil reached 112 for three in 18.2 overs to seal victory with 10 balls to spare.
Lindsay Boas anchored the chase with 35 runs off 38 balls, while Laura Agatha made 26 from 20 deliveries.
Monnike Machado finished unbeaten on 18 as Brazil successfully chased down the target.
For Nigeria, Christabel Chukwuonye, Adeshola Adekunle and Favour Eseigbe picked up a wicket each, but the effort was not enough to prevent Brazil from securing the win.
Maria Ribeiro was named Player of the Match for her decisive bowling performance that restricted Nigeria’s batting line-up and laid the foundation for Brazil’s successful chase.
The result dealt Nigeria another setback in the tournament as the Female YellowGreens continue their campaign, losing to Brazil for the second time in the competition.
Meanwhile, the tournament, organised by the Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) commemorates the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.(NAN)
