THE Parish priest of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tedi-muwo, Lagos, Rev. Fr. Anthony Thompson on Sunday urged Nigerians to stop being passive but take action for national change.
Speaking during a sermon to open the church’s harvest season, he said the world improves when everyone contributes their part.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the sermon is “The Harvest is Plenty but the Labourers are Few,”
Thompson noted that the nation is currently facing serious socio-economic and security challenges which requires God-fearing citizens to ‘stand in the gap’.
“Today, our country is in dire need of solutions to social-economic and security challenges that seems to be overwhelming it.
“Can you be that person or part of the solution to the challenges for the common good?.
“As a Christian you occupy a unique position as an embodiment and a signpost to salvation; begin today in your micro community to do things right and offer selfless service to community,” he said
Quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14, he reminded the congregation that God promised to heal the land if His people humble themselves, pray, and turn from sin.
According to him, before asking God to heal the nation, the Church must lead in repenting from corruption, injustice, greed, and immorality.
“When the people of Nineveh repented under the preaching of Jonah, God showed mercy and withheld judgment,” he said
The cleric consequently, urged christians to stand in the gap for the nation, rather than “sitting on the fence”. (NAN)
