A member of the House of Representatives representing Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency, Aliyu Misau, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The detection was announced to the House through a letter addressed to Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, the lawmaker expressing that the development takes immediate effect, attributing his decision to the prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP.
At the plenary on Wednesday, the defector held that the situation had made it difficult for him to effectively carry out his responsibilities and serve his constituents, and thanked the party for the opportunity given to me to serve the good people of Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency under its flagship.
Misau’s exit comes shortly after four other members of the Bauchi caucus in the House of Representatives, who were elected on the PDP platform, also defected to the APM.
The development has intensified concerns over the PDP’s declining influence in Bauchi State, with the party facing increasing challenges in retaining key political figures.
Furthermore, the defection is widely linked to the recent political realignment that followed the departure of Governor Bala Mohammed from the PDP to the APM.
Since that move, several political office holders and party supporters across the state have either joined the APM or indicated plans to do so.
The Guild reports that the latest defection is expected to further strengthen the APM’s growing presence in Bauchi while increasing pressure on the PDP as it seeks to maintain its relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.
