The Nigerian Army has begun investigation over the alleged assault and robbery by some of it’s personnel on students of the Osun State University students following raised concerns over the misconduct.
The declaration was issued by the military command of the state, expressing disatisfaction over the rumoured unlawful act, as well as promising the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that the matter would reach full investigation, with the emerging perpetrators to book.
The Public Relations Officer for the Depot Nigerian Army in Osogbo, Yahaya Ibrahim, on Tuesday, said that the Army remains committed to protecting citizens, especially students who represent the country’s future, adding that the conduct contrary to that duty would not be tolerated and does not align with the institution’s mandate.
Ibrahim stressed that no student or law-abiding citizen should feel unsafe or be subjected to harassment, intimidation or assault by security personnel, also urging the NANS South-West Coordinator, Adeyemo Kayode, to forward all relevant evidence and witness accounts to aid the investigation.
The Command clarified that the alleged conduct of the personnel was inconsistent with the training standards and character expectations for recruits at the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo.
