Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI have arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered two AK-47 rifles during a raid in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State, in a major operation against criminal elements in the region.
The operation, which was carried out following credible intelligence, targeted a known criminal corridor in the area and led to the arrest of suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate accused of terrorising residents.
According to the military on Friday, troops also recovered magazines and ammunition during the operation, a development it said has disrupted the group’s operational capability and denied the suspects the means to carry out further attacks.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are linked to kidnapping and other criminal activities in parts of Borno State.
The Army said the arrested suspects are currently in custody and are assisting security agencies with ongoing investigations aimed at tracking down other members of the syndicate and dismantling its support network.
It noted that the successful operation underscores the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements threatening peace and security in the North-East.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its resolve to continue intelligence-driven operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property, while working to ensure lasting peace, security and stability across the country.
