Operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State have arrested 46 suspects over offences of offences of kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary and other criminal offences.
The arrestees which include a husband and wife allegedly linked to the burglary of the residence of former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, following series of intelligence-driven operations conducted across different parts of the state, with authorities confirming the recovery of all mobile phones stolen during the incident.
The Corps Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed the development on Monday while parading the suspects at the corps’ headquarters in Akure, disclosing that the breakthrough was achieved after an extensive investigation by operatives, which led to the identification and arrest of the suspects connected to the burglary.
Adeleye explained that the operation also resulted in the arrest of a transporter allegedly used to move the stolen mobile phones from Okitipupa in Ondo State to Lagos, where the items were believed to have been taken after the burglary.
According to him, investigators tracked the movement of the devices and successfully recovered all the phones stolen during the incident.
The recovered phones were displayed before journalists alongside the suspects during the parade, as the commander highlighted the corps’ efforts to combat crime and recover stolen property across the state.
He revealed that some of the suspects paraded were being investigated for alleged involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery, stressing that Amotekun would continue to collaborate with other security agencies to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety.
Adeleye also announced that the Ondo State Government had approved the release of motorcycles previously impounded during enforcement operations.
He, however, noted that owners seeking to reclaim their motorcycles would be required to present valid documents proving ownership and compliance with relevant regulations before the vehicles could be released.
The commander reiterated the corps’ commitment to maintaining security across the state and urged residents to continue providing useful information that could assist security operatives in tracking down criminals and preventing crime.
