Nollywood actor, model and philanthropist Alexx Ekubo has been laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, following days of funeral activities attended by family members, friends, colleagues and fans.
The actor’s burial brought together personalities from the Nigerian entertainment industry and members of his community who gathered to pay their final respects.
Funeral rites begin in Abia
The final stage of the funeral programme started when Ekubo’s remains arrived at the family home in Ujari Village, Arochukwu, for a wake ceremony.
Family members, community leaders and entertainment personalities attended the event, where traditional rites were observed according to the family’s customs.
The funeral service was later held at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, before his remains were committed to rest at the family compound.
Colleagues pay tribute to Nollywood star
Several Nollywood actors and friends attended the burial ceremony, including IK Ogbonna, Ini Edo, Deyemi Okanlawon and other industry figures.

Service of Songs held in Lagos
Before his burial, a Service of Songs was held on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos.
The ceremony featured prayers, tributes and reflections from friends, family and colleagues who honoured the actor’s achievements and personality.
The event was part of a week-long funeral programme combining Christian ceremonies, traditional customs and tributes.
Alexx Ekubo’s career and legacy
Born on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Ekubo gained public attention after becoming first runner-up at the Mr Nigeria competition in 2010.
He later built a successful career in acting and modelling, becoming one of Nollywood’s recognised faces.
His breakthrough came through films such as Weekend Getaway, after which he appeared in several major productions including Sugar Rush, Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons, Omo Ghetto: The Saga and A Sunday Affair.
Beyond acting, Ekubo was also known for his charity work and youth-focused initiatives.
He was recognised among the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) Top 100 Under 40 in 2020.
