18-Month-Old Baby Beheaded In Ondo

Tragedy struck in Agoti farm settlement in Idanre Local Council Area of Ondo State following the gruesome killing of an 18-month-old toddler whose body was discovered with her head severed.

THISDAY gathered on Wednesday that tragic incident occurred a few days ago, when an unknown assailant allegedly stormed the farm settlement where the toddler lived with her parents and attacked the child’s mother before abducting and beheading the toddler.

The father of the deceased, Bright Kalu, a peasant farmer from Abia State, appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies, and human rights organizations to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous crime are brought to justice.

Kalu, who was working on another farmland some distance from the settlement at the time of the incident, recounted that the toddler had been left in the care of her mother at their farm camp alongside her three siblings.

The father explained that upon returning from a nearby camp where he had gone to purchase food items, he met his wife in a distressed state, after which she informed him that an unidentified individual had invaded the camp and attacked her.

According to Kalu, his wife managed to secure the safety of three of their children during the attack; their youngest child could not be found.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that detectives had arrested a suspect in connection with the crime.

He stated that investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing and determine whether other persons were involved.

He added that the case was initially reported at the Olofin Police Station in Idanre before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.
