The Nollywood industry has been thrown into mourning following the passing of veteran actress, Cecilia Obi-Kechere.
The passing of Cecilia Obi-Kechere was announced by the Directors Guild of Nigeria via its Instagram account.
Cecilia Obi-Kechere Passes Away
According to the post, the actress passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, after a prolonged illness.
Alongside the heartbreaking announcement, the post noted the actress’s contributions to the growth and unity of the association, particularly the Abuja chapter.
The association extended condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones.
”On behalf of the National Executive Council and the entire DGN family, I extend my deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, and all members of the Abuja Chapter in this difficult time. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace” The statement reads in part.
Solomon Akiyesi Passes Away
Earlier, GistReel reported that the Nollywood industry was recently thrown into mourning following the sudden death of veteran actor and producer, Solomon Akiyesi.
The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abubakar Yakubu, confirmed that Akiyesi passed away in his sleep on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Abuja.
However, his remains have been deposited in a morgue in the Federal Capital Territory.
A native of Akoko-Edo, Edo State, Akiyesi joined Nollywood in the late 1990s and built a career spanning over two decades. He featured in more than 100 films, including , Marry Who You Love, Heart of a Saint, Deadly Affair, and Pretty Liars.
Known for his versatility in supporting roles, he brought depth to family dramas, romantic films, and faith-based productions.
