The Lagos State Authorities has offered additional particulars on the reintroduced month-to-month environmental sanitation train, set to renew on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with motion restrictions and enforcement measures in place.
In a press release on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Atmosphere and Water Sources, Tokunbo Wahab, mentioned, “The train will maintain each final Saturday of the month between the hours of 6:30 am and eight:30 am.
Throughout this era, there shall be managed motion throughout the state to permit residents to hold out thorough cleansing of their properties, environment and drainage frontages.”
He acknowledged that enforcement groups comprising officers of the ministry, Lagos State Environmental Safety Company, Kick Towards Indiscipline, Lagos Waste Administration Authority, and native authorities sanitation inspectors would “conduct bodily inspections throughout and after the sanitation window to make sure compliance,” warning that “defaulters shall be sanctioned in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Administration and Safety Regulation of 2017.”
Wahab additionally acknowledged, “LAWMA intervention vans will go round to cart away bagged wastes generated through the train,” noting that “there shall be rewards for the cleanest Native Authorities Space, Native Council Growth Space, and the cleanest road as a part of efforts to encourage wholesome competitors and group participation.”

He urged residents to cooperate with the initiative, saying, “We urge all residents to take possession of this train and be a part of fingers with the federal government in constructing a cleaner, safer and extra sustainable Lagos.”
The clarification follows the symbolic flag-off of the train alongside the Mushin–Agege Motor Street hall on March 14, forward of its full implementation later this month.
The state authorities had earlier introduced in March that the sanitation train would resume almost a decade after it was suspended in November 2016 following a authorized pronouncement limiting motion through the programme.
Whereas some residents have welcomed the transfer, saying it might curb indiscriminate waste disposal and scale back flooding, others have raised considerations about enforcement, warning that motion restrictions might be abused and calling for sustained public schooling on correct waste administration.
