A non-governmental organisation, the Road Mentors Community, Monday stated it has empowered 530 susceptible youngsters in Akwa Ibom state by way of academic assist, meals objects, well being interventions and vocational abilities.
The group’s government director, Ms Anny Michael, acknowledged this at a press convention whereas commemorating the 2026 Worldwide Day of Road Kids, in Uyo.
Michael acknowledged that the empowerment programme is focused at street-connected youngsters, orphans and kids from low-income houses.
She stated the initiative was designed to assist susceptible youngsters and ease hardship on struggling households.
”Throughout Akwa Ibom state and Nigeria at massive, youngsters discover themselves on the streets on account of poverty and household instability, abuse and neglect, lack of entry to schooling and dangerous cultural beliefs and stigmatization,” she stated.
Talking on the theme: ‘Defend, Don’t Punish,’ Michael stated that no youngster needs to be handled as a legal for merely making an attempt to outlive.
She added that the organisation has reached 359 ladies by way of empowerment programms, educated 105 younger folks in vocational abilities and engaged 25 boys by way of sports mentorship. She added that the organisation has reached over 10,000 folks by way of advocacy campaigns.
