Former Adamawa state commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, who was also the immidiate past Executive Director Research and Development at Tertiary Education Trust Fund( TETFUND), Dr.Salihu Bakari Gerei, has joined the governorship race in Adamawa state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress ( APC).
Declaring his intention at a press conference in Yola weekend, Bakari said that his decision to contest the election was borne out of patrotic desire to contribute his quota to the development of the state and build upon the achievements of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri
He said having being in public service for atleast 33 years where he served the state and the country in different capacities , his achievements have put him far ahead of other contestants.
Bakari promised to implement people’s centred policies and programmes that would fastract development, expand opportunities and bring succour to the people of the state.
He added that his previous positions made him to traverse all the nooks and crannies of the state, making him to know the challenges faced by the people especially at the grassroots.
Recalling his tenure as ADSUBEB chairman and commissioner for Local Governments during Nyako’s tenure, Bakari enumerated some of his achievements to includes constructions of over 5000 classrooms, recruitements of over 17,000 teachers , promotion of so many teachers who were not promoted for over 5 years.
Others according to him are distributions of free school uniforms, training of teachers, distributions of motorcycles to supervisors and head teachers in rural schools, restoration of salary payments in 7 local Governments, construction of Government Lodge in all the 21 local Governments, modern abbatoir among others.
