THE Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jos, Most Rev. Matthew Ishaya, has urged couples to build their marriages on Christ through faith, love, patience and constant prayers.
Ishaya gave the advice on Saturday during a mass wedding involving 25 couples at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Dong, in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau.
He said marriage, as ordained by God, required commitment and spiritual devotion to withstand challenges.
He said couples should remain prayerful, noting that families that pray together are more likely to maintain unity.
“Your marriage must be rooted in Christ. If Christ is the foundation of your home, no storm can destroy it.
“Do not relent in prayers. A family that prays together stays together,” he said.
The Archbishop urged the couples to love and respect one another, practise forgiveness and remain committed to building peaceful, God-fearing homes.
He also advised them to shun third-party interference, infidelity and other behaviours capable of destroying marriages.
One of the couples, Mr Daniel Kaze, who married Polina Daniel, thanked the Church for the opportunity to be joined in holy matrimony.
Kaze said the mass wedding had enabled them to formalise their union according to the rites of the Catholic Church.
He prayed for God’s blessings upon the Church and the Archbishop for facilitating the programme.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the mass wedding was attended by family members, friends, parishioners and well-wishers. (NAN)
