The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspected car thieves in Kano State and also recovered a vehicle believed to have been stolen to aid their criminal acts.
The suspects, Abdullahi Sani and Abdullahi Suleiman of ages 61 and 63, respectively, were intercepted while driving the vehicle, a red Toyota Carina II Wagon away after security personnel on routine patrol.
The duo nabbed and taken to the custody during early hours at the Ladanai Junction, along the Eastern Bypass at about 2:10 a.m with the recovered vehicle with registration number LFA 417 AA also taken from the scene, as disclosed by the Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Agalama.
Agalama, at the headquarters on Friday, said the vehicle had been reported stolen three days before the suspects were apprehended, adding that the circumstances surrounding its disappearance and recovery were being investigated.
Meanwhile, the command also disclosed the arrest of a 45-year-old man, Suleiman Shehu, over the vandalism of an armoured cable belonging to Triumph Nigeria Limited at Bompai in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
According to the NSCDC, Shehu is an employee of the company and was arrested after he allegedly damaged the cable.
Agalama said all the suspects remained in custody while preliminary investigations continued.
He added that those found culpable would be prosecuted after the investigations were concluded.
The commandant also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information about suspicious activities, saying public cooperation remained vital to tackling crime in Kano State.
